The Journey, to the rest of my life.
My name is Valerie, I live in Brentwood California with my boyfriend Nick, and my amazing little boy Hayden. I am currently going to school to become a dental Hygienist. On my spare time I enjoy hiking and just being with my family, or having barbeques with my friends. My son is my greatest accomplishment; he is my biggest fan and my biggest encouragement to be successful in my career. As a child I had many problems with my teeth. It seems like every fun holiday that came around I had an abscess and had to have my teeth pulled, I took an intrest in wanting to know why this happened so often to me. However it taught me early on to take exceptional care of my teeth, and because of that, I developed a passion for them. I was very fearful of the dentist, because of these painful experiences. This however is what led me to wanting to make a change in the dental world. I wanted to be someone who could change the mind of someone like me into enjoying their dental experience. I enrolled into the Dental Assisting program when I was 21, and graduated in 2005. I worked for the same dentist for five years as his chair side and took an exceptional interest in the Hygienist's at my office. I saw that they were able to maintain relationships with their patients, and they confided in our Hygienist's, and believed we were truly providing the best care possible. I have wanted that for as long as I could remember, and so I decided to expand my dental knowledge and peruse my dream of become a Hygienist myself. I started to attend the prerequisites while I was working and commuting from Livermore to Sacramento three days a week at night. This brings me to today. I am enjoying every second of the dental hygiene program; I’m developing lifelong friendships as well as living my dream. I’m truly smiling from the inside out. The course Special Needs is going to allow me to record and track case studies of possible real situations, or experiences I could endure as a Hygienist. I will sometimes give you journal articles that I have read through and summarized. In doing so I will also be providing the recordings to my findings and share knowledge that was gained from the work I put into them.
